As Tennessee football fans process the tough loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff, another chapter is closing for the Vols—several key players are saying goodbye, including veteran offensive lineman Dayne Davis. After six years with the team, Davis is leaving Knoxville to pursue the next chapter of his career, either through the NFL Draft or another opportunity.
Davis’ journey to Tennessee was nothing short of inspiring. As a local walk-on, he chased his dream of playing for the Vols despite not being on scholarship. His dedication paid off after the 2020 season when he earned a scholarship, and his hard work led to 51 games played for the program. For Davis, playing under Coach Josh Heupel and suiting up for Tennessee on Saturdays at Neyland Stadium was a dream come true.
In his emotional farewell post to Vols Nation, Davis shared his gratitude, saying, “Thank you, Tennessee. Thank you for giving a local boy all the little kid in him wanted…a shot to play for the Big Orange on Fall Saturdays in Neyland Stadium. The memories and friendships I have made I will remember and cherish for a lifetime. So long for now, but VFL!”
Davis’ incredible journey from walk-on to scholarship player, through tough times and the high of a 10-win season in 2024, stands as a testament to his work ethic and perseverance. While his time with the Vols didn’t end as planned, his legacy will be one of hard work, resilience, and dedication, making him a player Vols fans will always root for and remember fondly.
