In a surprising twist, Tennessee linebacker Kalib Perry is reportedly entering the transfer portal, shaking up the Vols’ defensive unit once again. The junior linebacker, who’s been a key rotational player for the past two seasons, has decided to explore new opportunities for his final year of eligibility.
Over his time at Tennessee, Perry has logged 61 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two blocked punts, and one forced fumble in 37 games. His standout 2024 season saw him playing 234 snaps, earning 26 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. He also started key games against Florida, Alabama, and Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.
Perry’s departure marks the fifth defensive player to enter the transfer portal, including linebacker Jalen Smith, who’s headed to Mississippi State, cornerback Jordan Matthews (Vanderbilt), defensive back Christian Harrison, and defensive end Jayson Jenkins. This leaves a noticeable gap in Tennessee’s defensive depth as they now brace for the impact of these departures.
At 6-foot-3 and 231 pounds, Perry’s decision is a blow for the Vols, who’ve already seen several players move on this December. Though the portal is closed for Tennessee, other teams are still actively eyeing players, and Perry’s next chapter could be just beginning.
