A late 10-0 run to close the third quarter helped push OU to its sixth straight victory, improving their record to an impressive 12-1. After a break since Dec. 22, coach Jennie Baranczyk’s squad looked to shake off the holiday rust, and they did just that with a dominant second-half performance.

The Sooners struggled early, shooting just 3-of-15 from beyond the arc in the first half, their second-lowest scoring half of the season with just 31 points. However, after New Mexico State briefly took the lead in the second half, OU’s offense ignited. Payton Verhulst and Sahara Williams led the charge, knocking down crucial three-pointers. The Sooners finished the second half hot, hitting 6-of-12 from beyond the arc and going on a 12-0 run to pull away.
2. Balanced Scoring Power
As has been the trend all season, Oklahoma showed depth and balance across the board. Raegan Beers led the charge with a double-double: 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Payton Verhulst chipped in 15 points, including three three-pointers, while Sahara Williams added 18, with 12 coming after halftime. Lexy Keys also contributed with 9 points and three threes. The Sooners continue to demonstrate their collective offensive strength.
3. Dominating the Glass and Turnovers
Oklahoma’s size and strength were evident as they dominated New Mexico State in second-chance points, grabbing 22 offensive rebounds to the Aggies’ 7. This resulted in 24 second-chance points, while NMSU only managed 2. OU also capitalized on turnovers, converting 13 NMSU miscues into 19 points.
Next up for the Sooners is a highly anticipated matchup against No. 5-ranked Texas on Thursday, followed by a road trip to Tennessee. The Sooners are showing no signs of slowing down as they prepare for SEC play.
