Florida State’s football legacy boasts an impressive list of running backs, from Warrick Dunn to Dalvin Cook, Greg Jones, and beyond. Among them, Cam Akers stands out as a dynamic force, and on Sunday, he proved his worth once again in the NFL.
Currently with the Minnesota Vikings, Akers faced off against his former team, the Green Bay Packers, in a crucial game with playoff implications. Despite a turbulent college career at Florida State under both Jimbo Fisher and Willie Taggart, Akers made a name for himself, rushing for 2,874 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Akers delivered solid performances, racking up over 600 rushing yards in his rookie and third seasons. However, the NFL’s volatile running back market led him to a brief stint with the Houston Texans before landing in Minnesota.
With the Vikings leading 27-25 late in a fierce rivalry game, Akers made a game-sealing play. On a critical pass play, he caught a perfectly executed ball in the flat to secure a first down and effectively close out the victory.
