**Brent Venables Reflects on Bold Two-Point Conversion Call Against Navy: ‘I’d Do It Again’**

Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables recently addressed his decision to go for a two-point conversion in the dying moments of the Sooners’ game against Navy, a call that ended up failing and adding to the intensity of the game’s final stretch. Despite the result, Venables expressed confidence in his decision and revealed he would make the same call again if given the opportunity.

The moment came during a critical point in the fourth quarter, when Oklahoma, trailing Navy by one point, faced a choice: attempt an extra point and go into overtime or take a shot at a two-point conversion to secure the win outright. Venables, known for his aggressive coaching style, chose the latter. The Sooners’ offense, however, came up short on the attempt, and Navy held on for the 38-37 victory.

Venables, in his post-game remarks, stood by his decision, saying, “I’d go for it again. You’ve got to trust your team, trust your players. We were in a position to win the game right there. That’s the kind of football we play — aggressive, go after it, and make the most of opportunities.”

His decision sparked mixed reactions, with some praising his willingness to take risks and others questioning the choice given the situation. Despite the loss, Venables made it clear that he doesn’t second-guess his instincts. “We’ve got to take chances in moments like that,” he continued. “It’s about confidence and belief in the players and the system. That’s how we play, and we’ll continue to make those kinds of decisions when they come up.”

Venables’ aggressive mindset has become a hallmark of his coaching philosophy, and while the decision didn’t pay off in this instance, it’s clear that he values boldness and accountability. His willingness to make tough calls, even in high-stakes moments, sends a message to his team and the Oklahoma fanbase: he’s all in, no matter the outcome.
