Florida State is making moves in the NCAA Transfer Portal, aiming to strengthen their roster for the 2025 season. After already securing 11 transfers, the Seminoles are setting their sights on more talent — and one major name headed their way is Caleb LaVallee, a linebacker transferring from North Carolina.
LaVallee, who has a history with Florida State after they recruited him before his commitment to UNC, will visit Tallahassee on January 1, as first reported by Noles247 and confirmed by NoleGameday. This visit marks the start of his new year, and it’s a familiar spot for the Georgia native, who made two trips to FSU during his high school recruitment.
A reserve for the Tar Heels over the past two seasons, LaVallee redshirted in 2023, playing in four games without recording stats. He had more impact in 2024, contributing off the bench and making his first career start in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl against UConn. In that game, LaVallee showcased his skills with nine tackles and a tackle for loss. Across 16 games, he accumulated 14 tackles, one tackle for loss, and a blocked punt.
At 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds, LaVallee is a solid linebacker with three years of eligibility left, making him a valuable addition to any program. Florida State, already bolstered by returning players like Omar Graham Jr. and Blake Nichelson, has also brought in transfers like Stefon Thompson from Nebraska and three-star recruit Ethan Pritchard.
With the 2025 season on the horizon, LaVallee’s visit could be the start of something special for Florida State as they continue to build a championship-caliber defense.
