Miami kicker Andres Borregales has etched his name in history, becoming the Hurricanes’ all-time leading scorer with a 21-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of the Pop-Tarts Bowl. This milestone moved him past Michael Badgley, accumulating a total of 405 career points. Borregales contributed 11 points in the game against Iowa State, adding five extra points and two field goals to his record-breaking tally.
While Badgley still holds the program record for career field goals with 77, Borregales is close behind with 74. Badgley, who played for Miami until 2017 and spent six seasons in the NFL, is sidelined for the 2024 season due to a hamstring injury.
Borregales is the latest in a line of standout kickers from the Borregales family, following in the footsteps of his brother Jose, a consensus All-American in 2020. Andres was named First-Team All-ACC in both 2023 and 2024, and his 116 points this season led all ACC kickers, surpassing Clemson’s Nolan Hauser with 62 extra points.
As Borregales wraps up his successful career, he now shifts focus to the NFL, where he hopes to be drafted or signed as an undrafted free agent. Miami’s kicking future looks promising with redshirt freshman Abram Murray, who served as Borregales’ backup, and new transfer Carter Davis from Florida Atlantic, ready to compete for the starting role in 2025.
