Florida State has long been known for producing dynamic running backs, with legends like Warrick Dunn, Dalvin Cook, and Cam Akers leaving their mark on the Seminoles’ storied history. However, the 2024 season didn’t see the same level of success on the ground, as FSU’s rushing offense struggled, ranking among the worst in the nation.
Despite a promising duo of Kameron Davis and Lawrance Toafili, the running game failed to deliver the explosive plays fans had hoped for. With an offensive lineup full of potential, including backs like Roydell Williams and Jaylin Lucas, expectations were high, but the offense just couldn’t click.
Yet, there’s a bright future for the running back group under assistant coach David Johnson, with new talent coming in, such as four-star signee Ousmane Kromah, who recently flipped from Georgia. The position may soon be bolstered by a veteran transfer as well.
One notable offseason decision for Florida State was parting ways with talented running back Rodney Hill. Over two seasons with the Seminoles, Hill amassed 334 yards and two touchdowns on 77 carries, playing with a physical style that outperformed his three-star recruit status. Though rumors swirled about his transfer, Hill ultimately landed with the Arkansas Razorbacks, where he had a strong showing in 2024 with 103 yards and two touchdowns on just 20 carries.
When the AutoZone Liberty Bowl rolled around, Hill’s opportunity came in the form of a starting role due to injuries and opt-outs. He made the most of it, ripping off a 70-yard gain in the first quarter, reminding everyone of his potential.
