Auburn football’s defensive backfield takes another hit as Keionte Scott becomes the latest Tiger to enter the transfer portal. The seasoned defensive back, who appeared in 27 games for Auburn from 2022 to 2024, made the announcement this week, following an NCAA ruling granting former JUCO players an additional year of eligibility.
Scott, who joined Auburn in 2022 after a standout season at Snow College in Utah, has been a versatile player for the Tigers. Over his three seasons, he not only made an impact on defense but also showcased his skills as a return specialist, logging 44 punt returns for an average of 10.5 yards and even scoring once with a career-long 74-yard return.
During his time at Auburn, Scott split duties between the nickel and cornerback positions, totaling 133 tackles and eight pass breakups. However, his playing time in 2024 was impacted by a mid-season ankle injury and the rise of true freshman Jay Crawford, who earned a larger role in the defense.
With Crawford, Kayin Lee, and Kensley Louidor-Faustin returning, along with Miami (Ohio) transfer Raion Strader, Auburn’s cornerback corps will remain young but brimming with talent for the 2025 season. Despite his departure, Scott’s journey at Auburn will be remembered, and his next move in the transfer portal will surely draw attention.
