West Virginia’s starting quarterback Garrett Greene and left tackle Wyatt Milum are both tagged as doubtful for tonight’s showdown in Arizona, as reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
With upper-body injuries keeping them sidelined, the expectation has been clear all week, especially with a bye week on the horizon.
In Greene’s absence, redshirt sophomore Nicco Marchiol is set to take the reins. This matchup is particularly significant for him, as he returns to Arizona, where he wrapped up his high school career in Chandler.
Marchiol’s career stats show promise, with 388 passing yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions on 53.6% completion. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers will rely on redshirt freshman Big Johnny Williams IV to step up at left tackle. While losing an All-American like Milum is a setback, Williams is ready to hold the fort against a struggling Arizona defense.
The Wildcats also face their own challenges, having lost their starting left tackle for the season, leaving a gap that could be exploited.
Kickoff is set for 7 PM, and the stage is set for an electrifying battle!
