The Florida Gators just lost two key out-of-conference games for 2026, with NC State and Cal both falling off the schedule. Originally set for September 5 and September 19, these matchups are now history.
With only their SEC games and a couple of others lined up, the Gators are looking for fresh opponents to fill their remaining slots.
Can the SEC Solve This?
While the SEC is currently on an eight-game conference schedule, changes could be on the horizon by 2026. If the conference opts for a nine-game format, that would fill one of the gaps. With realignment shaking things up, Florida’s original plans with Cal and NC State now seem outdated. They need to reassess their conference alignments to avoid further scheduling headaches down the line.
Possible Opponents from the West?
With the need for one more game, the search for opponents intensifies. Although many schools have their 2026 schedules set, the shifting landscape in the Pac-12 presents some intriguing options. Florida could look to teams like Oregon State or Washington State for a matchup, especially after the Gators’ poor showing against the Beavers in the past. Another option could be Colorado State, or even a historic clash with Air Force.
With fewer matchups against western teams, this is a prime opportunity for the Gators to explore new rivalries and revamp their schedule.
